foodforest.org.nz (“this site”, “we”, “us”) is an open knowledge resource about food forests in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is connected with the Vector Group Charitable Trust (NZ registered charity CC45966). Site craft is by Te Puke Digital.
This policy explains what personal information we may collect, how we use it, and your rights under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. It is written for a static educational website for users aged 16 and over — not a membership platform, shop, logged-in service or children’s site.
1. What this site is
- We do not require accounts, logins or user profiles.
- We do not operate an admin dashboard or user database for this project.
- Content is published as static pages (guides, plant profiles, guilds and related resources).
2. Information we may collect
Information you choose to send us
If you email or message us about corrections, suggestions or collaboration (for example via channels linked from our Contact page), we will receive whatever you include — typically your name, email address and message content. We use that only to respond and to improve the site where relevant.
Newsletter and forms
This site does not currently run a newsletter signup or contact form that stores email addresses. To reach us, use the email address on our Contact page. If we later add a mailing list or form provider, we will name it here and explain what is stored and how to unsubscribe.
Technical and server logs
Like most websites, our hosting and delivery infrastructure may automatically process limited technical data such as IP address, browser type, device/OS hints, referring URL, pages requested and timestamps. This is used for security, reliability, abuse prevention and basic traffic understanding — not to build marketing profiles of individual readers.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-WWW32FFNP6) to understand aggregate page views, traffic sources and similar usage patterns so we can improve the knowledge base. Google may set cookies or use similar technologies and process data according to Google’s Privacy Policy. We do not use this site for third-party advertising or behavioural ad tracking. You can limit analytics via browser controls, Google’s ads/analytics settings where available, or by contacting us.
3. How we use information
Where we hold personal information, we use it to:
- Respond to enquiries and content corrections
- Operate, secure and improve the website
- Meet legal obligations where they apply
We do not sell personal information. We do not use this site’s contact channels for unrelated commercial cold outreach.
4. Sharing and processors
Personal information may be processed by trusted service providers who help us run the site (for example hosting, email or form tooling), under arrangements appropriate to the service. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety or security.
Links to related network sites — such as Food Forests NZ, Troppo, Kai Resilience or Te Puke Digital — are subject to those sites’ own privacy practices. Check their policies before submitting information there.
5. Retention
Enquiry emails are kept only as long as needed to handle the conversation and any follow-up (for example a content fix), unless a longer period is required for legal or security reasons. Server logs are retained according to normal hosting practices and then deleted or aggregated.
6. Your privacy rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you. To make a request, use the channels on our Contact page and include enough detail for us to locate the information. We will respond as required by law.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle a privacy matter, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
7. Age — no one under 16
foodforest.org.nz is for people aged 16 years or older only. Children and anyone under 16 are not allowed to use this site.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. We do not offer accounts, child profiles or under-16 services on this site. If we learn that someone under 16 has sent us personal information, we will delete it where reasonably practicable. Contact us via the Contact page if you believe this has happened.
8. International access
The site is published for readers in Aotearoa New Zealand and may be accessed from elsewhere. Technical processing may involve infrastructure outside New Zealand. We take reasonable steps appropriate to a public knowledge site.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this page when our practices change (for example adding a mailing list or analytics). The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
